tedxubud

The spectacular TEDxUbud 2019, is just around the corner (happening on the 12th October this year!) and we’re doing a happy dance in excited anticipation for what this years event will hold. We’re not sure how this could possibly compete with previous years TEDxUbud events, but knowing the stellar team behind it we’re confident it will be even bigger and better!!! This year the event will be returning to the beautiful Setia Darma House of Puppets and Masks, one of the most stunning venues in Ubud. If you’re sitting on the fence about whether you should come to this year’s TEDxUbud, here are seven reasons (that might persuade you) why it’s one of our favourite events of the year:

1. All the Inclusions in the Ticket Price

A ticket to TEDxUbud reserves oh so much more then simple a seat to plonk down in and watch a series of speakers. Oh no, the tickets include so much more; goodie bags, free food, drinks and sweet treats all night! Spend the intermissions strolling the grounds of Setia Darma enjoying delicious food and drink from stalls by the likes of Locavore, Gelato Secrets, and Albens Cider. Our stomachs can’t be rumbling during the talks now can they!!!

2. The VARIETY OF Speakers

This year’s theme is ‘Movement’ and the speakers line up couldn’t be more fitting. True to TEDxUbud form, there is a real range of speakers. We can’t wait to see internationally acclaimed artist Louise Despont speak on ‘How we think with our hands’ and we’re expecting to learn a bit about ourselves during Jonny Miller’s talk ‘What happens when you let yourself break open?’. Also intriguing, Balinese poet, activist and academic Saras Dewi will be presenting ‘What when the Gods won’t come back to earth?’. We’re ready to get our brains switched on!

3. INCREDIBLE Performances

TEDxUbud never disappoints when it comes to performances. The lineup of musical talent, dance and theater is always perfectly curated to enhance the day and introduce us to something that might be outside our usual genre of choice. This year there will be music by up-and-coming Bali-based band Manja and performance by the super-unique Prehistoric Body Theater.

4. The TEDxUbud goodie bag

It’s impossible to mention TEDxUbud and not mention the awesome gift bag each attendee gets when they check in. The TEDxUbud team put together the most impressive selection of goodies we could imagine. They also come in custom designed re-useable bags are waaaay cooler than your average tote! This is not one of those gift bags that will be left in a dusty corner of your house. No, these are filled with wonderful little gifts that vary from year to year! It’s one of those little touches that makes the event so jam-packed with value! We can’t wait to see what goodies will line our bags at the 2019 event!

5. The People You’ll Meet

At the heart of TEDxUbud is the spirit of hanging out with likeminded people, making new friends and enjoying the company of people who are all soaking up a day of learning, music, dance, great food and an all round positive atmosphere. You don’t need to worry about making boring small talk about the weather, because there event is basically an enormous conversation starter in itself! It’s basically impossible not to make connections and have interesting conversations during the day.

6. Waste Management

When we attend TEDxUbud we never have to worry about stressing out the environment like many other big events do. The TEDxUbud team have covered all the bases when it comes to waste management. Eco Bali Recycling bins and Nazava filtered water stations will be available and each attendee will get a refillable bottle (one of those goodie bag treats!) so staying hydrated doesn’t mean mountains of plastic water bottles. Big props to TEDxUbud for this one!

7. Memorable Moments

It might seem corny but believe us when we say that every year we come away from TEDxUbud with amazing memories. Whether it’s the talks, the performances or the people we meet, we promise it’s a day that’s not easily forgotten. Our friends that haven’t attended have tell us to stop raving about how awesome TEDxUbud was but it’s guaranteed they are at the front of the line for tickets the following year. Here’s a few stand-out talks from previous years:
