Umajati Retreat is home to two Javanese wooden homes that are over one hundred years old. These joglos are the ultimate in Indonesian style done right. They include the finest of Indonesian design mixed with tasteful high-quality interiors. They must be seen to fully appreciate their epic beauty. The owners of Umajati have preserved seventy-percent of the land as lush tropical gardens with vibrant bird life, butterflies and other wildlife surrounding the accommodation, along with the rice fields and jungle on every side. This is the real-deal when it comes to retreat stays.
Two stunning joglos make up the accommodation; one with one bedroom and the other with two bedrooms. Both homes offer air conditioning, spacious living areas, ensuites and daybeds for additional guests. Complimentary breakfast is prepared by the friendly staff each day, along with a home-cooked weekly menu to choose from throughout the day. Re-connect with nature and take a peaceful walk through the gardens, rest on the wrap-around porch, request an in-house massage or enjoy afternoon tea by the pool munching on locally made traditional cakes. Staff can also arrange a wide variety of local tours and activities outside the retreat.
If you’re looking to immerse yourself into Balinese culture, you can participate in the in-house cultural experiences including cooking classes, making Balinese offerings, batik and indigo workshops. Umajati has a large garden devoted to producing plants that create natural dyes from recipes that have been found and preserved from various Balinese cultures. They pride themselves on sustainability and cultural integrity. You are also invited to join in on any local ceremonies that are happening in the village, with appropriate ceremony attire available for such events.
Umajati is located a ten minute drive north of Ubud in the village of Petulu, the home of the nesting herons, which soar over the sky each afternoon on their return home. A free shuttle is available to guests whenever they wish to travel into town.
